Where Should the W.H.O. $2,500 check go?

09.08.10 / W.H.O. / Author: admin

W.H.O. is Women Helping Others and when Michelle Jones was chosen by her peers to be the Spirit of BeautiControl she was giving a $2,500 check to give to her charity of choice.  Michelle said since the people of BeautiControl chose me then I also want these people to have a say as to where the money should go.

Please watch the video below and respond to which charity you think Michelle should give her $2,500 check too.

Follow These 5 Steps:

1.  You must be a member of the W.H.O. Facebook page for your choice and vote to count.  Go there now and hit the LIKE button at the top of the page. (takes 10 seconds)

2.  Click here to bring up “Comments” and leave your name, email, phone number, your charity and why it should be picked.

3. Make sure to share with your friends and family so they can suggest their charity or they can vote for yours – Michelle Jones will choose one of the top three charities with the most votes for the $2500 WHO Check!

4.  If you do not give Michelle your name, email, phone number and the charity link there is no way for Michelle to contact you if she chooses your charity.

5.  Review W.H.O.‘s application criteria first by clicking here or going to this website: http://www.whofoundation.org/Funding/Who_FundingCriteria.asp

I’m excited to see the list of charities!

Diane Dinkmeyer // August 9th, 2010 - 5:16 pm

I’d like to vote for the check to go to BrainCandyProject.org which was established by my son in honor of my grandson Cameron who left us 2 years ago Sept.

Thanks for considering this.

Lorene Harmala // August 23rd, 2010 - 11:26 am

Michelle, if you have a desire for a real ‘hometown’ charity, Second Chance Homes in Billings is awesome. They help mothers (and now fathers) live in a safe and supervised environment for themselves and their children while they are going through drug and alchohol treatment. It keeps them off the street and helps them focus on reuniting with their children while getting sober. They have experienced great success with the program, and it is a blessing for the children. http://www.sch-mt.org/

Christine Cambron // August 23rd, 2010 - 1:05 pm

The womans and children battered shellter is the one I chose for the check you recieved to go. You are so awesome, an inspiration for many. Keep up the great work….

Jerry Hoppe // August 23rd, 2010 - 8:00 pm

Spokane Guilds’ School & Neuromuscular Center. This organization makes a substantial difference in the life of children 0-3 years of age. And a notable impact to the mothers and families of the children being helped. The community believes …and helps this organization with penny drives and other fundraisers in the public school system among other events. My son was a recipient of this help center. What a difference they made!

My vote for the $2,500 would be for WAR International, which now reaches 14 different risks including domestic violence, depression, loss, disease, exploitation, and more. It’s goal is to create circles of protection and hope around women and children at risk through culturally sensitive, value-added intervention projects. Check you the website…it’s heart-wrenching! Thank you for the consideration, Michelle!

I would like to nominate the Princess Lee Foundation in Las Vegas Nv. The Princess Lee is founded by Brenda Lee and her organizaton helps abused and neglected children. I have had the privlege of donationing my time to help children in her organization. As a retail store manager I have helped to donate much needed clothing to children of all ages, but especially teens who get forgotten. Please consider this charity.

Kelley Stephenson // August 24th, 2010 - 9:55 am

I would like to nominate the LifeWell Free Store in Zanesville, Ohio. The store is completely run off of donations and volunteers to give community members who could not normally afford it clothes, housewares, backpacks, and other items to families in Zanesville. The number of people who “shop” in the store on a regular basis is staggering. This tiny free store services many families who would not be able to provide the items themselves. I have personally seen people thrilled to find clothes, car seat, and stroller for their newborn that they would not have had access to otherwise. Please highly consider the LifeWell Free Store as a not-for-profit recipient of Michelle Jones’ donation money. I can easily get up-to-date records of the exact number of people serviced since the opening of the store and how many items have been given away. The money would be spent in a thrifty fashion and will go a long way to making many peoples’ lives better.

I would love to see the $2,500 go toward “Lashes of Love”…

This heartfelt program was implemented to provide semi-permanent lashes, eyebrow wigs, skin care kits and more to cancer patients following chemotherapy, FREE OF CHARGE!

As cancer patients face the difficult task of chemotherapy and consequentially the loss of their hair (incl. lashes and brows), they also have to deal with looking at themselves in the mirror every day, wondering “who is this person?” Many cancer patients have shared with us their struggles with their appearance! They face feelings of worthlessness, causing emotional distress and psychological defeat. This should be the last thing they have to worry about… and so, “Lashes of Love” was formed!

It is our hope to that this uplifting and inspirational treatment will provide each of our recipients with a sense of dignity and normality, allowing them to concentrate on their recovery and well-being.

It is only through grants, donations and sponsorships that this invaluable service can be provided, and so we THANK YOU for your consideration!

Lindsey Miller // August 24th, 2010 - 6:24 pm

Michelle,

What a wonderful idea! I would ask that you consider the PRC of Central KY in my town of Danville. The Pregnancy Resource Center is a local, independent, non-profit, faith-based organization whose goal is to help take the “crisis” out of unplanned pregnancies in Danville and 5 surrounding counties.
The PRC offers love, truth, support, and care without condemnation through a variety of free, confidential services designed to affirm the worth of both the woman in crisis and her unborn child.
We are funded totally by individual, business, and church donations and is dependent on the generosity of the local communities for both funding and volunteers.

As a volunteer and directors board member, I know how this would not only affect our current clients in crisis but also the community we are in. We educate youth regularly on these life issues and with this donation we could reach so many more and provide these services and help to many more in need.

Its the hardest thing to have young women and men come in with a need and have to turn them away simply for lack of supplies or funds. But that is what we face without outside financial support from people who donate.

Thank you for your consideration!!! A donation like this would me SO much.

Susan Smith // August 25th, 2010 - 4:48 am

Michelle, I have been a volunteer counselor for Hope Resource Center for about 13 years. Hope is a Crisis Pregnancy Center helping women of all ages make 1one of the hardest decisions in their lives when they find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy. We speak the truth to them about all of their choices but do it with love and tenderness. We also provide STD testing and education in schools, church groups, etc. Rarely does the media or typical information sources tell the whole picture and they don’t have loving arms to hug or shoulders to cry on. We are able to help them think through their crisis state and often give them hope. We also give them a range classes which they can attend and earn “baby bucks” and shop in our Stork Shop for needed baby items. We come along side them with mentoring and encouragement. Teens who get pregnant have a low rate of finishing school and being self supporting. We are doing our part to turn that around for those in our program. We also include the boyfriendss as much as they are willing. I cannot tell you the feeling it is to hold a newborn who might not have ever been born, just because you were just there to listen and give support! We try to minister to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs the girls come with.
Since the tough economic crunch, we have had to let about 1/2 of our staff go and close 1 office which was on Univ of TN campus. Every dollar is SO appreciated. Thank you for your consideration and your giving heart. You truly do represent the Spirit of BeautiControl!
Susan Smith, TN

Jamie Rutherford // August 25th, 2010 - 7:32 am

Thanks Michelle for all the wonderful things you do for us and others you are most deserving of the Spirit of BC. I would love to be considered for the $2,500 check to go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation which is dear to my heart because my son Jeremy has CF. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and young adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:
clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and young adults with CF.

Jason Bumpus // August 25th, 2010 - 8:09 am

Thank you for your consideration and for this opportunity. I would strongly suggest any donation be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. There is no cure for Cystic Fibrosis. I have 3 younger siblings with CF and the only reason they are still alive today is because of the generous contributions people make(possibly such as yours), which fund life-saving(and sustaining) medications and treatments. To learn more please watch this short:

http://www.youtube.com/jimnightshade79#p/u/10/FNUwg6MJ1Cw

It is a documentary I am making–a work in progress–to better inform the general public about the progress being made for the CF cause.

Krystal Ball // August 25th, 2010 - 8:36 am

Thank you to Michelle for opening this up to charities that are near and dear to our heart! My choice is the Ridgeview High School Music Boosters here in Bakersfield, CA. I have worked with this organization for 6 years and I have seen first hand the difference they make in the lives of children! The fine arts in California high schools is something that is struggling! Budget cuts and hard choices have left our music program like many others having to pick and choose where to help. They have been successful through fund raising to try and keep the parents costs as low as they can be, but any cost these days is hard for some. I would like this money to be used for scholarship money for those students that need help with their band expenses. Giving high school students something to be a part of and keeping them away from some of the choices they can make is extremely important. Also, the caliber and success of this music program is one of the best in the state! Two years ago our marching band took 6th in the state and last year our drumline placed 1st in division competitions! Please consider this valuable organization for one of your choices! Thank you!

Sharon Skeen // August 25th, 2010 - 10:06 am

Michelle you are working to help others which is great by anyone’s standards. If we all lent a helping hand what a place this world would be. I was a BeautiControl Consultant sometime back before tragedy hit my family hard. My husband was diagnosed with Multiple Myleoma the same day my dad moved in from cancer surgery. With all the financial burdens we’ve been through since we had to close our family business, Daniel’s had over 250 chemo treatments and one stem cell transplant and waiting for a 2nd one (insurance may not cover), we lost his 13-year old son, and our home through Mortgage Fraud. We have moved to his parents home and my son and I spend quite a bit of time in our room since we homeschool as well. Without the love offerings from God’s people through the North Knoxville Baptist Church we would have been homeless sooner. Your funds will be accepted gratefully by anyone you select, if you select the Daniel Skeen Family Fund, we would truly be blessed.

Jill // August 25th, 2010 - 12:40 pm

What a wonderful idea, Michelle, to invite suggestions as to who the donation should go to. I just KNEW you were going to receive the Spirit of BeautiControl….because you ARE! I would like to see the donation go to Cystic Fibrosis, as it is an awful disease and have seen its progression. Thank you for all you do!

Wendy // August 25th, 2010 - 4:44 pm

I would like to see the the donation go to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. My good friend has a son who has this disease and I would love to see them get closer to a cure.

Bettye // August 25th, 2010 - 7:30 pm

I would like the money to go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I have a very good friend whose son has this disease and it is very debilitating. Would be good to see some positive results.

I would like to see this money go to the sudc program in memory of the children like my daughter who have past away for no reason. We created Brandon and katies run for a reason to raise money and awareness of SUDC Sudden unexplained death in childhood over 1 years age, I hope you will please consider donating and helping us to find a reason and help prevent other toddlers from facing the same fate

Monica Blakney // August 25th, 2010 - 8:40 pm

Michelle, I have volunteered the a non-profit organization called Project Blessings for almost two years now. Project Blessings helps families that Hud or any other foundation can not help because the homes are not up to livable conditions. For example, We go in and remodel houses from painting to finding beds and replacing toys for the kids. We help moms get back on their feet and get their kids back. This non-profit organization does not get help from anyone and basically runs off of donations and volunteers. That is one of the main reasons this awesome charity needs help. I would love to see this Christian based non-profit organization go state-wide from the support from the most amazing company in the world. Please consider this charity and helping us give a reason to these families in need. Thank you!

Katie West // August 25th, 2010 - 11:21 pm

I would love to see this money go to SUDC (Sudden Unexplained Death In Children) to help raise awareness and help find answers. No parent should ever have to experience the loss of a child.

Nancy O'Leary // August 26th, 2010 - 5:30 am

I would like to nominate The Brain Candy Project. their motto is “holding parents so parents can hold their children” WHile these children are medically being cared for , there is a need for their families to also be supported and cared for and thats what the Brain Candy Project does.
“PARENT CARE IS PATI…ENT CAREWhile some hospitals certainly do better than others, the consensus is that it is never enough. The Brain Candy Project picks up where hospitals must leave off, in terms of in-house parent care. Parent care is patient care, when it comes to kids who are critically ill. They look to their parents for how to react, how to heal, and how to cope.”

“The Brain Candy Project’s mission is to support the needs of parents/guardians living in the hospital with their critically… ill children.We will collaborate with and support other non-profit organizations who are focused on charitable and educational activities that raise awareness about pediatric illnesses, traumas, and the support needs of families who are affected by them.”

The Brain Candy Project a charitable program of the Congressional District Programs, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.Tax ID #: 65-0970090

Bobette cagle // August 26th, 2010 - 5:41 am

I would love to see this $2500 check go to the Sudc.org. In March of 2008 my 17-month old grandson, Brandon George Cagle died from Sudden Unexplained Death of a Child. Our family has been devastated by his death. This money could be donated to this organization for research with the hope that no other family would have to lose a child. My beautiful daughter-in-law, Lauren Cagle is a crusader in this cause. Please consider this charity for the donation. Thank you. Bobette Cagle

Allison Rorick // August 26th, 2010 - 6:13 am

A little over a year ago I started Birthday Blessings of Northeast Indiana, a 501(c)(3)non-profit which provides birthday celebrations for children living in local homeless shelters. At each monthly party we provide a meal for all families who attend the celebration, cake, punch, activities and games, goodie bags for every child and a gift for each child celebrating a birthday. We are currently involved with 5 shelters which means we can provide up to 5 birthday celebrations per month! We operate on the belief that every child’s life deserves to be celbrated, regardless of circumstance and with all of your votes $2,500 will go a long way towrds celebrating, encouraging and inspiring the life of a homeless child. Thank you!

Hey Michelle what a wonderful idea you are awesome thanks for all you do. I would like to suggest the Make A Wish foundation. I have been a volunteer with this organization for the last 3 years. We currently have 5 children just in our zone waiting for wish funding. Wishes are granted for children age 2 1/2 to 18 with life threatening illnesses. We do several fund raising events each year but there is always one more child waiting. Thank you for your consideration.

I would love for Foster Youth Life Investment Partners to receive the monies. Every year, more than 20,000 American foster youth turn 18 and step out into the world alone, most of them without any kind of support or resources. FYLIP was formed to assist the young adults and their families as they leave the foster care system and enter in society. They are provided with resources as well as assistance for housing, medical issues and college text books. Please select this group as your organization to give to this year.

I would like to nominate the Children’s Hunger Fund. I have worked with this organization and they are amazing!

CHF, a Christian 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, works to alleviate the suffering of children in impoverished regions across America and around the world. Through strategic partnerships in targeted communities, CHF works to improve the lives of poor children and their families holistically, meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Each situation is unique, so CHF responds in many different ways. Through the following programs, CHF provides ongoing help to the helpless.

* Home Delivery of Food
* Emergency Feeding Campaigns
* Medical Clinics (Mobile and Permanent)
* Orphan Homes
* Discipleship
* Job Training
* Disaster Relief
* Clean Water
* Community Development
* Farming Training and Support

CHF is well-known for program efficiency. Since inception, more than 99% of all revenue has been used in programs serving the needs of children.

CHF’s strategies are most vividly exhibited in our Mercy Networks®. These indigenously led groupings of local churches work tirelessly to care for poor children and families in their communities. Using CHF’s Food Pak® as a relationship building tool, trained volunteers bring food directly to the homes of suffering children and work to affect positive change in their lives.

Hi Michelle,
Please vote for the Junior Auxiliary of DeSoto County Mississippi to receive your W.H.O. award. Our organization is a 501c3 that puts over 6000 direct contact hours each year into helping children and women in our community. Please visit our website to see details of all of our projects we now have 14 service projects we work on all geared toward helping women and children. Our slogan is “Care today… Character tomorrow.”

Here are just a few examples of what we do:
Jump Back To School- We provide school supplies, back packs, and new shoes for foster children in our area to start their school year.
We work on several projects such as being PALS for children in the schools that are chosen through DHS. We also do DHS Christmas shopping to provide Christmas to children who wouldn’t have anything. GirlsU is another project I think every spa girl would LOVE… It’s a day camp for 6th grade girls that focuses on inner beauty, outer beauty, creativity, etiquette, self-esteem and abstinence.
This year we have started a school aid program in which our members go in teams to the schools to help teachers who have a need. Another new project that is planned in the spring is “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Family” to educate children and families on living a healthy lifestyle and provide health information and screening. I am serving as the Sponsorship Chairman this year, and I ask that you look carefully at supporting this organization. Everyone… Please visit http://www.jadesoto.org and see more of what we do.

I’d like the check to go to Lashes of Love (www.lashes-of-love.org) because of their commitment to the cause and also because i think that the L.o.L. project is quite creative and different than the other usual charity organizations. We should have a L.o.L. in Italy as well!

Birthday Blessings of Northeast Indiana is a wonderful organization that encourages homeless children to celebrate life by provided the monthly birthday parties for children living in homeless shelters. It is a blessing to the children, families, the staff at the shelters, and the volunteers of Birthday Blessings of Northeast Indiana.

Melinda Kivinski // August 29th, 2010 - 8:02 am

//www.lashes-of-love.org and Cheryl Land does wonderful work with cancer patients. When everything has been taken away from our cancer patients, to put back a little bit of what has been taken from them is every bit as important as anything else in the recovery process. Self-esteem is a HUGE part of the fight!!

Kelli Ramirez // August 29th, 2010 - 12:37 pm

I vote for “Lashes of Love” (www.lashesoflove.org) this is a wonderful organization formed for giving the gift of semi-permanent eyelashes, wigs & eyebrows to women who have gone through chemotherapy. This helps women to feel good about themselves while going through a very tough time in their lives!

Hi Michelle,

I’d like to vote for the Junior Auxiliary of Desoto County,Mississippi to receive the W.H.O. award. We are a group of dedicated women who serve children and their families in need in the Desoto County area. We have 14 service projects ongoing, and log over 6000 volunteer hours per year – we’re able to assist in domestic violence shelters, with DHS, and in the area schools. Also, we provide the GirlsU program, which focuses on “being beautiful from the inside out” for at-risk sixth grade girls, and we are launching a new “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Family” program to provide health education and screenings for the community. Please visit http://www.jadesoto.org for more information. Thanks!

Carole Rohde // August 29th, 2010 - 5:36 pm

I would like to see the donation go to SUDC. Our director Lauren Cagle has personal experience with this tragic event and she and her family have supported research in this area.She has been blessed by this organization and it would be a blessing to receive this donation in memory of her son.

Michelle, I would love to see the money donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. My director and friend, Jamie Rutherford, has a son who has cysic fibrosis. My husband’s uncle also passed away from this horrible disease. It would be such a wonderful thing to see a cure for Jamie’s son and all those who suffer from CF. Thank you for such a beautiful gift from the heart!

Vicki Earl // August 29th, 2010 - 7:27 pm

Pick JA Desoto for the Grant.

Trisha Chauvin // August 29th, 2010 - 7:43 pm

Michelle, my suggestion for the donation is Louisiana Teen Challenge Women’s centers. This is a discipleship training program for women fighting addiction, prostitution, and many other types of bondage. It is truly a life changing program. I know from personal experience what Teen Challenge can do for the life of a woman and her children. LTC currently runs 2 centers for women. They are currently in the process of starting a new center for women and children. Please consider this charity as the recipient of the donation. Thanks!!

I would like to vote for the PRC of Central Kentucky located in Danville, Kentucky!

henrietta foy // August 29th, 2010 - 8:52 pm

My vote goes to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a.k.a. CF Foundation. This is a life-shortening disease. It begins when a baby is born with CF, then hopefully, with wonderful medical professionals and CF researchers, the baby has a 50/50 chance to grow to toddler, teen, and young adult. Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that demands,for the lifetime of the child, great amounts of medications, treatments, unending visits to specialists and many hospital stays for ‘tune-up’ procedures. One of these surgical procedures attempts to suction out some of the unimaginable amount of mucus blockage in the lungs of these young people. All of this so that they may do what we take for granted everyday, just to be able to breathe. The CF disease also affects the body’s other organs, causing multiple health issues. God Bless my grandson,Jeremy,who has this disease, and also each and every one of you that has Cystic Fibrosis. May you continue to be diligent with your health care, patient with yourself and others, and continue to fight the good fight. People care.

And she is my little Diva. We have alot we have to do, but that is ok. It would be great for other kids like my Sarah to have a chance. Thank you for this chance. You are a very giving person.

The Get In Touch Girls’ Program & Daisy Wheel breast health initiative teaches girls in grades 5-12 the importance of, and how to do a breast self exam – for life! Every young girl NEEDS this information! Early detection is the single most important anecdote to a successful outcome after diagnosis. Your $2500 award would purchase 2500 Daisy Wheels…which is 2500 girls lives changed…one girl at a time – hope lives!

The Pregnancy Resource Center of Central Kentucky in Danville should win because they help so many women, children and families

Mary Ann Walker // August 30th, 2010 - 8:24 am

By the grace of God, my children don’t have CF but is in the family. It could affect my grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. without any notice. They have come a long way with CF but they still have a way to go. I think the CF Foundation deserves the money so they can continue researching treatments so maybe a CF patient can like a normal long life.

We have 14 service projects ongoing, and log over 6000 volunteer hours per year – we’re able to assist in domestic violence shelters, with DHS, and in the area schools. Also, we provide the Girls U program, which focuses on “being beautiful from the inside out” for at-risk sixth grade girls (which my daughter was chosen to attend this fabulous day event this past spring, it was a must to help build self-esteem, and provide ample opportunites that she might not have gotten), and we are launching a new “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Family” program to provide health education and screenings for the community. Please visit http://www.jadesoto.org for more information. Thanks!
Sincerely,

Lisa Johnson

This is a nonprofit organization for children with life threatening conditions.
This organization is exactly what it says – They “Give Kids the WORLD”!

Our family has a personal story and history with Give Kids the World.

Our daughter, Allison had very special needs. Allison was dependent for everything. She could not talk, walk, nor even rub her nose if it itched.

For almost 16 years, Allison had the strength of none we have ever known. Her life was as “normal” as possible given the challenges she faced every day. Challenges such as up to 13 medications a day, daily shots and blood draws. We needed to be sure only certain veins were used and rotated. Allison had up to 70 seizures a day. Our home was like a mini ER. Allison needed to wear special braces as well as shoes. Pillow cases would burn her face, so everything was special. Her food was like ours, just pureed. Allison ate steak as well as cookies with milk.

Allison went to school every day when she was well. Besides school, Allison had 6 therapies a week – speech, occupational and physical. Allison had special equipment and lots of it. You had to have a degree to figure them all out. We can’t forget the regular checkups with each and every one of her 9 Doctors.

Allison had a full life because, even with this rigorous schedule, she had time to be a kid. If she couldn’t go out, we had movie night at home. She loved roller skating and so did her friends. Allison’s wheelchair went on the rink. Everyone skated better pushing and holding her chair.

Life for Allison was not easy and she would let you know when she had enough. You had to know her well to be able to know her wants, needs, and dislikes. You could not just walk in and care for Allison. Her care was 24 hours a day.

Allison was a pioneer in so many ways. She taught all about unconditional love, trust, faith, courage, and more. She was even a pioneer at the Children’s Medical Center in Memphis. Allison was the first to have the Vagus Nerve Stimulator implant. The implant helped her as well medical professionals to learn. She had to get compassionate plea as she was too young for the operation and implant. There is so much more that could be told.

Allison was a little girl with 2 sisters who were all just trying to be kids. Allison’s sisters are Ashley and Anna. These three beautiful girls just wanted to be together and have fun. Sometime that included oxygen, tubes, wires and more, but Ashley and Anna never saw any of those things. Though, they saw a lot of the pain and suffering Allison would go through. But first and foremost, they saw their Allison. Ashley, Allison and Anna have such as strong bond and love. Allison has taught and given them such gentle, loving hearts, a passion for life and giving back. Ashley and Anna have experienced and have such a unique insight on life that most people will never understand. Allison has taught all of us the true meaning of living, caring, hoping and learning let go.

Give Kids the World, gave our family all a break from what was normal for us. It gave Allison time to do things we couldn’t have afforded and been able to figure out how to make it work for her.

Allison received a Make a Wish. Her wish was to go to Disney World. The wish was granted. Then Give Kids the World took over. Together the two organizations worked diligently to get Allison to Orlando. I never realized how hard it would be to even get Allison on a plane, but these two organizations finally figured it out with the help of the airlines and me.

Many children stay at the resorts at Disney World. That was not a possibility for us. Allison had medications to be refrigerated, special food, special bed, special transportation and that is just the beginning. Our family were going to stay at Give Kids the World. We were clueless what that meant. All of our medical supplies were delivered to our villa. Anything we needed was there usually before we could ask!

We arrived at Orlando Airport with an awesome greeting. Give Kids the World picked us up in Van with a lift. That was ours for the week. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with 2 baths at Give Kids the World. The refrigerator was stocked, even ice cream in the freezer. The grounds had 2 pools, theater, carousel, ice cream shop, a gingerbread house and more! More has been added since we were there.

Allison ate off a fork for the first time ever in that Gingerbread House. That was unbelievable for us. Characters from all of the parks visited for those children who could not go to the parks. It was truly AMAZING!

Every day at Give Kids the World was a holiday. In fact every Thursday is Christmas! Santa and Mrs. Claus are there in their special location. There are toys and gifts everywhere. Everyone gets to see and be with Santa. Every child gets a special gift. For some this will be their last Christmas.

We went to Disney World, Sea World, And Universal Studios! We experience more in 1 week, then most can in 2 weeks! Why? Because we are with Give Kids the World! Allison wore a special badge – she did not wait in any line, nor did she wait when her sisters were doing something. Ashley and Anna didn’t wait for anything because they didn’t want Allison to wait.

Give Kids the World had every park’s first aid stations ready for us. I was able to use them to give medicine and whatever our needs were, even if she just needed to get out of her chair and lay down.

Every night we came back, there were always presents. They were fabulous gifts too.

We came back too late for dinner one night, so we ordered a pizza. The pizza place delivered the pizza at the gates and a volunteer brought it to us. They wouldn’t let us pay or even tip them.

This was an experience of a lifetime. So many people worked so very hard to make this experience one to be remembered forever. And it always will be. Allison loved and enjoyed everything as did all of us. No doctors, nothing but good times, laughter and memories. We watched the girls be friends. Sisters that could laugh, eat, sleep and do everything together which most parents take for granted. We could have watched them like that forever – they were just happy kids together.

We will all remember that experience as the best family time. We will forever be grateful to Give Kids the World, as there was no pain, no problems, no surgeries, no crying – just a family being a family. It was our little calm before the storm. Allison would want as many children as possible, to have the experience she had and the special time she had with her sisters. And I know Ashley and Anna will cherish those memories forever. As for Joe and I, there are no words that could ever express what all these wonderful people did for our family. Allison is gone to a better place now, even better than Give Kids the World, but thanks to them we have the most beautiful memories of a good time, a painless time and no one can ever take that away. Allison is in Heaven. And as one wise Monsignor said, Allison is not an angel in heaven. She was a messenger sent from God, and was an angel on earth. Allison is now a Saint in heaven.
Give Kids the World gave us a little slice of heaven and memories that will last forever.

I vote for Give Kids the World.

Sheri Robinson // September 1st, 2010 - 3:33 pm

I vote for Cystic Fibrosis as my son and 2 neices have it. It is a hard disease to live with, lots of medications, chest pounding and breathing exercises. I wish there was a cure and you don’t know you are a carrier until you have a child who has it. So it is a gene within our family and we are having 2 grandbabies this year and we pray they don’t have it. Thanks for considering Cystic Fibrosis. There are so many charities out there it will be hard to choose.

They help extremely sick children have their “wish/dream” come true. My girlfriend’s entire family was able to go on a fishing trip to Alaska when her son was so terribly sick with Hodgkins. He was only about 5 or 6 at the time. They have amazing memories and he is now 20!! Wishes are granted for children age 2 1/2 to 18 with life threatening illnesses. Thank you for your consideration

Please consider Second Chance Homes, a 501c3 in Billings, Montana. The project works to ensure the safety, wellbeing and permanency of children in families with substance abuse and addiction. The families served are able to be reunified (or child removal prevented) because Second Chance Homes offers 24 hour supervised supportive housing for mothers and their children. They offer a vast array of support services for women and their little ones. They have a comprehensive program that addresses addiction, mental health, relationship, economic self sufficiency and of course, housing, for these families. By meeting the basic needs of families such as housing and food, we can engage their hearts and minds in the betterment of the various other skills needed to be self sufficient, healthy, loving parents AND it positively influences the children to make better choices and better connections for a brighter future! Thanks for the consideration of Second Chance Homes!

Becky Bey // September 2nd, 2010 - 12:04 pm

I have to agree with Donna. I was one of the initial organizers of the Second Chance Homes Project and it has become more then we could ever have imagined when we were writing initial plans. There is such a need in Billings for housing, and specifically for housing that works with families while they are in recovery. Additionally, Second Chance Homes is a true community-based project, partnering with numerous other agencies to ensure the best and most comprehensive services are available to participants. I would encourage you to consider this project and thank you for your consideration.

I am 3rd generation supporter/volunteer of the Union Rescue Mission of Los Angeles California. They need or help!
They have a special place called “Hope Gardens” it is where they transplant the families who are living on the streets of Los Angles, to this enviromemt which trains them in life skills and relationships within there families and building new health ones. With that comes skills for a caree path to live a better life and sustain it when they leave. They have a 80-90 persent success rate! Now that is Powerful!
But wait there is more this is what touches my heart and I find make this organization standout from the rest for there commentment to giving a place for our Seniors!
Right now all they can house is Woman over the age of 55. They have a save haven and this place looks like home (as does most parts of the other cite) and puts our Seniors in a place of safety and security on the Garden grounds. It once again re-enforces the Wisdom of our seniors and all they have to offer each us! They truly have gifts from times pasts and puts it all to great use from making blankets to helping in the library on site, once again for these Ladies they find the Light with each of them that Life had sniffed out of her! For our Elderly should never live on the STREET!
For those of you reading this please vote or Thank you fore taking the time to read about what is happening out here in the Greater LA AREA! Michelle a personal Thank you for this opportunity to spread our wing n grow! Blessing to you n Yours!

Michelle, I vote for the Make a Wish Foundation that Cheri Young is involved with. I’ve seen her stories and it means so much for families that can’t provide that one last wish for someone during their last months, to get to see that experience happen for their loved one. It will be a memory for them forever after their loss. I also believe it will be those families that have been touched that will then continue to touch others as well.
Thank you Michelle for giving this back. YOU are a true inspiration.

Mary Head // September 4th, 2010 - 8:40 am

Michelle, I vote for the Make a Wish Foundation that Cheri Young is involved with. I have known personally what this organization does for children. Jabin Lawrence was a member of our church and had terminal cancer. He was only 4 years old. Make a Wish Foundation sent him and his family to Disney World and it was their last vacation with Jabin. It was memories they will treasure for the rest of their lives. There are families in pain that need that one moment of happiness to hold onto. This will give them the precious memories of their loved one before our Lord takes them home.
Thank you Michelle for giving to the ones that are in need as this. You are a true HERO.

Lori Elder // September 4th, 2010 - 9:00 am

Michelle – I don’t envy you trying to make this decision. I read these stories and they make me cry. There are sooo many people hurting out there – from the young girls struggling with the beginnings of life to the seniors living on the street at the end of their lives. And of course there are the working poor that struggle to put food on the table every day and keep the roof over their heads. When you read stories like this you stop and realize how blessed we are. I have nothing against the make a wish or these other large organizations – but I think it should go to one of the smaller ones – that doesn’t usually get such generous gifts. They will see you and our group as their Fairy God mother! Good luck and may the best non profit win!

Hi Michelle!! I am voting for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Nicole Rekart // September 5th, 2010 - 7:09 pm

Michelle I hurried home to get this in~in all hopes this will help find a cure. My daughter Megan was recently diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes insulin dependent. She pricks her little finger more then 7 times a day and she receives 4 or more insulin shots a day. If you kind find it in your heart to pick Megan Rekart’s Racers for JDRF Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation our family would be so thankful. We are walking with Megan on October 3rd so I am giving you our website link if we would win the funds will go in Megan’s name for the research of diabetes. Every penny helps and I would split the winnings with one of the other charities of your choice of course. We would just love to find a cure! I thank you for listening. Many blessing to the winner and their charity. God Bless Nicole Rekart

She has to prick her own finger over 7 times a day and she has to have insulin shots at least 4 times a day. We really would love for you to choose this charity as My daughter Megan is walking with her family on October 3 for JDRF. Our team name is Megan Rekart’s Racers it would mean the world to Megan to have her Mom’s Spa friends share this event and donate to this cause. our website is http://walk.jdrf.org/walker.cfm?id=87715587

Hello Ms. Michelle My name is Danielle I am 10 years old and we do not know if my vote counts but if it does I would love to find a cure for my sister. She was diagnose with Type 1 Diabetes. She has to get needles all the time and she is really sad when she has to get them. I hate to see my sissy like this and wish there was a cure today. But, with your charity you could actually help us find a cure sooner. I would love it if you could help us. Please pick my sister Megan for your charity. We are with JDRF this is a short version of Juvenile diabetes. Her website is http://walk.jdrf.org/walker.cfm?id=87715587. Please choose my sister charity. Thanks Danielle Rekart
By the way mom says I can give you her number it is (636) 584-5274. Thank you Ms. Michelle

HI Michelle, I have recently been diagnose with T1 Diabetes. I am walking for a cure with my friends and family on October 3rd. We would love for you to choose our charity as I would love to find a cure sooner. JDRF is a great Juvenile Research Foundation and even though I have only been diagnosed 5 short weeks, it is the hardest thing I have had to deal with. I hate the shots I have to get everyday. Fighting the highs and lows. It is just a horrible disease and to find a cure would be great. If you pick our charity I would be so apprecaited to you and BeautiControl. Thank you Michelle Jones. My Mom’s number is (636) 584-5274 if we win you can call her and tell her. Thank you, Megan
